Recommissioning a Wine or Undercounter Unit After a Remodel
A unit that comes out for a remodel goes back into a different opening: new floor height, new returns, sometimes a plinth that was not there before. Much of what we are called out to afterwards starts in the weeks it spent standing somewhere else.

Twenty-four hours upright before power
If the unit travelled on its back or on its side, Sub-Zero wants it upright for a minimum of twenty-four hours before anything is plugged in. Write the hour on the tape holding the door shut.

Measure the opening you now have
Cabinetry moves during a remodel. Check the width, the height and the finished returns against the design guide for that model before the unit is slid back, not after it has been wedged in and levelled.

Prove the kickplate still comes off
New flooring laid up to a unit that was levelled on the old floor is the classic remodel fault. The kickplate must stay removable for service, or the next repair starts by lifting boards.

Purge the water line, then connect it
On a plumbed unit the line is flushed before the final connection, so swarf from the new pipework never reaches the valve. Then go over every fitting for leaks while you can still see them.

Test the drain with a gallon of water
On an ice machine, pour a gallon of cold water into the bin and watch it go. Sub-Zero's check is sixty seconds; slower means a kink or too little fall, which should be a quarter inch for every foot of run.

Watch a full cycle before sign-off
Sign the joinery off after the machine has proved itself. One ice production cycle runs about thirty minutes from fill to harvest, and the control stretches or shortens it to suit the conditions. A cabinet is judged on where it settles, not on its first hour.

How long before it holds temperature again?
It depends on the model, so take the figure from its own guide rather than from the unit next to it. Sub-Zero allows about twenty-four hours on the 315W undercounter wine cabinet, and says a full load of room-temperature bottles can keep it running for that whole first day, which is normal and not a fault.
Does a new floor really matter?
It matters more than the worktop does. The unit is levelled on whatever floor it stands on, and the kickplate has to come away cleanly for every future service call.
