My unit is panel-ready and built into cabinetry. Can it be worked on in place?
Most faults can. Where a unit does have to come forward — sealed-system work, a condenser fan, a compressor — the doors and panels come off first and the cabinetry is protected. Newer Playa Vista and Westwood kitchens are built with almost no clearance, so this gets planned rather than improvised.
The fridge side is warm but the freezer is fine. Is the compressor dead?
Almost certainly not. Built-in Sub-Zero units in the 600 and 700 series run two independent sealed systems, so a working freezer proves half the machine is healthy. That symptom is usually an evaporator fan, a defrost fault or a drifting thermistor on the fresh-food circuit.
Do you work on integrated wine columns and undercounter ice makers as well?
Yes. Wine storage, integrated wine columns, built-in and undercounter ice makers and undercounter refrigerator drawers are all Sub-Zero refrigeration, and all part of the ordinary week here.
Is a fifteen-year-old built-in worth repairing?
Usually. The cabinet, the doors and the cabinetry around it are the expensive part of a built-in, and they are almost never what fails. A fan motor, a heater, a sensor or a gasket is a modest repair against replacing a unit that a kitchen was designed around.
